Introducing the Minds Behind Our Mission

Rana Hajirasouli

Founder

Rana has over 13+ years industry experience spanning marine conservation, litigation, and chemicals manufacturing. She founded UAE-based climate-technology company The Surpluss in 2021, acquiring a U.S Patent and UK IPO Certification which proposes a new methodology for inter-organizational collaboration for surplus resources.

Rana has received an Mst in Sustainability Leadership from the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership (CISL) with distinction, where she developed an interest in creating diagnostic frameworks for more resilient, localized supply chains in resource-intensive sectors. She has also completed an LLM in International Law from Middlesex University, an M.Phil in International Peace Studies specializing in the legality of transboundary resource management, and a B.A in Philosophy, Political Science, Economics & Sociology (PPES) from Trinity College Dublin. Rana is also an accredited GRI Sustainability Professional, Sustainability Excellence Associate, and Biomimicry Practitioner certified. She frequently writes thought leadership articles on the topics of climate change, supply chain sustainability, and industrial symbiosis in the G.C.C region.

Rana is a PhD researcher at the University of Cambridge. Her work focuses on the intersection of complex adaptive systems and digitization of industrial symbiosis as an industry response to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Khalisah has extensive experience from Dubai’s tech startup scene and a proven track record of supporting global clients in sustainable tourism, notably managing sustainability assessments for major Destination Management Organisations in Europe and Asia. She has delivered a TEDx talk on aligning destinations with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and excels in project management, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability standards. Khalisah holds a Master's in Sustainable Tourism Management of Resources and Destinations from the EAE Business School in Barcelona and is based in the UAE.
